India accuses Pakistan of ‘Violations’ Following Trump’s Ceasefire Announcement

India and Pakistan have reached a truce following negotiations led by the U.S., which aimed to conclude one of the most severe military confrontations between these nuclear-capable adversaries in many years. However, just hours after announcing the deal, India alleged that Pakistan had violated the terms multiple times.

The initial term of the ceasefire was proposed by U.S. President
Donald Trump
Who made a post on Truth Social stating that the nations?
had agreed
an immediate ceasefire.

This confirmation came from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Additional discussions between the nations are set for May 12.

Yet, just a few hours following the ceasefire declaration, explosions could be heard in Srinagar. The cause of these blasts remained unclear.

Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter): “What the heck just occurred with the ceasefire? There were explosions ringing out all over Srinagar!!!”

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gave a short briefing late on Saturday, saying there had been “repeated violations of the understanding we arrived at earlier this evening.” He said that India’s military was giving an “appropriate response.”

“The military is closely monitoring the circumstances and has received orders to take strict action against any recurrence of borderline infractions at both the International Border and the Line of Control,” he stated.

Why It Matters

The cessation of hostilities will provide a sense of relief to an international community anxiously watching the rising tensions between these two nuclear-armed nations.
This comes after several weeks of conflicts.

India attributes this to Pakistan, but the nation refutes the accusation.

What To Know

On Saturday, writing on Truth Social, Trump stated: “Following extensive discussions facilitated by the United States overnight, I’m delighted to share that India and Pakistan have concurred with a TOTAL AND INSTANT Ceasefire.”

Trump’s Secretary of State
Marco Rubio
said that Vice President
JD Vance
had dedicated the last 48 hours to meetings with high-ranking Indian and Pakistani officials, encompassing discussions with both countries’ Prime Ministers.
Narendra Modi
and Shehbaz Sharif.

“Senator Rubio commended Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their wisdom, prudence, and leadership in opting for the route of peace,” he stated.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the Pakistani Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on Saturday.

Both parties concurred to cease all hostilities on land, in the sky, and across the seas at 5 PM local time.

The situation escalated after an incident occurred at Pahalgam, a renowned tourist destination in India-administered Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians on April 22nd. New Delhi accused Islamabad of supporting the strike; however, Pakistan denied these claims.

Following cycles of reciprocal assaults, India declared on Saturday that they had struck Pakistani airbases in response to Islamabad launching multiple swift-fired missiles at both military and civil installations within Punjab province. Pakistan stated that they managed to intercept most of these missiles and subsequently launched counter-strikes.

What People Are Saying

U.S. President Donald Trump stated:

Congratulations to both nations for employing common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attentiveness to this issue!

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated:

All combat activities and military operations on land, at sea, and in the air would cease effective immediately at 5:00 PM India Standard Time as of today.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar shared on X, which was previously known as Twitter:

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated:

I’m delighted to share that the governments of India and Pakistan have concurred upon an instant truce and plan to initiate discussions on a wide range of topics at a neutral location.

What Happens Next

Rubio mentioned that the nations concurred on initiating discussions covering an extensive range of topics at a non-partisan location but did not specify where this would take place. Islamabad stated that both Saudi Arabia and Turkey assisted in arranging the agreement. Nonetheless, the extent of involvement from these mediators remains uncertain as Pakistan and India prepare for additional negotiations on Monday, with hopes that the ceasefire might persist.
