U.S. Announces Ceasefire Deal Between India and Pakistan

President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared early Saturday that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire following several days of conflict.

In a posting on Truth Social, soon after Rubio released a statement indicating that the two countries have concurred with an instant cessation of hostilities and will commence discussions on a wide range of topics at a neutral location.

The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan affirmed the ceasefire deal, with Pakistan’s foreign minister, Ishaq Dar,

in a post on X that, “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

At a press briefing, Indian External Affairs Minister Vikram Misri informed journalists, “Both parties will cease all bombardments and halt military operations on land as well as in the air and at sea starting from 5:00 PM IST today. Orders have been issued on both fronts to implement this agreement.”

The announcement arrives merely days after Pakistan.

In a contested area located between the two countries known as Kashmir.

India stated that a minimum of 16 civilians were killed since the assaults started, whereas Pakistan reported that at least 31 individuals lost their lives following the incidents.

a terror attack occurring on April 22
in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people. Indian officials said that the militant groups responsible for that attack have ties to Pakistan, which denied any involvement.

On Saturday, shortly after the ceasefire was announced, Tammy Bruce, a spokesperson for the State Department, said in a statement that Rubio “offered U.S. assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts,” but did not indicate when those talks would begin or where they would take place.
