Hundreds of former IDF soldiers, including senior officers and bereaved families of fallen soldiers, join calls on the government to prioritize a hostage deal — even if it means ending the war in Gaza, according to a Ynet news report.
A letter signed by 458 former members of the Golani Brigade urges the immediate return of the hostages, even at the expense of the cessation of fighting.
The signatories comprise ex-IDF Intelligence Chief Maj. Gen. (res.) Uri Sagi, former Central Command leader Maj. Gen. (res.) Ilan Biran, along with Maayan and Ron Kehati, whose son Sgt. Gur Kehati died in Lebanon in November.
A separate message from 315 ex-members of scout and foot soldiers’ units reads: “This stands as our foremost assignment, these are the principles we uphold, and this represents our ethical obligation as a country. It is an appeal to preserve life.”
According to Ynet, most of those who signed are not presently active in the reserves.
