Ukraine Excludes Russian Gas Transit in US Agreement Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that discussions regarding Ukraine’s gas pipelines were separate from the recently signed minerals deal between his country and the U.S. Although talks about these pipelines continue, he clarified that they do not include plans for transporting Russian natural gas through them.

On April 17, during a meeting with reporters, Volodymyr Zelensky discussed Ukraine’s natural gas transportation network. As reported by “Pravda,” the Ukrainian president highlighted that

“We didn’t discuss the pipeline. However, should we choose to address this asset, we could examine it further. Yet, definitely not concerning the Russians transporting their natural gas and benefiting from the conflict. As we’ve repeatedly stated: there’s alternative gas and other nations available for supply—this works well enough,” said Zelensky.

Zelensky stated that Ukraine has made it clear they do not intend to resume gas transit, and the U.S. is not advocating for this either. He also mentioned that discussions could potentially include alternative gas suppliers and additional nations.
