In Krasnodar (Russia), a significant number of soldiers escaped en masse from a military commandant’s office, having been detained there for desertion (AWOL), as reported by Astra.
It is said that approximately one hundred Russian troops took part in the attempted breakout from their unit.
As reported by Russian media, law enforcement has closed off Second Trudovaya Street near the Krasnodar military unit, with numerous police officers present and ongoing vehicle checks.
As reported by the propaganda-oriented Telegram channel Baza, approximately 100 escapees were formerly detained at one of the military commandant’s offices within a designated enclosed section. Additionally, it was mentioned that these soldiers breached the fencing and have since left the premises of the commandant’s office.
Initial reports suggest that the military personnel who escaped in Krasnodar did not have weapons. There has been no report of any casualties or injuries arising from this event.
Furthermore, according to Russian media reports, the region housing the local military commandant’s office was encircled by units from the Russian National Guard along with police vehicles.
It is still unknown whether any of the soldiers managed to escape from the Krasnodar military unit.
Abandonment of duty in the Russian military
Previously, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted an rise in instances of desertion within the Russian military as well as acts of insubordination towards their commanders.
Incidentally, a comparable escape happened at another military facility within Russia not long ago, albeit on a smaller scale. The event in question transpired close to Novosibirsk back in November of the previous year. During this occurrence, roughly 10 to 15 Russian servicemen fled their base. Notably, some of these individuals had prior combat experience against Ukraine.
In June 2023, within the Bryansk region of Russia, an armed recruit deserted his military base. Additionally, around May 25, 2023, approximately twenty soldiers ran away from their barracks close to Svatove in the Luhansk area. These Russian service members seized control of a car before proceeding towards an undisclosed location.
