Overnight Blitz: Ukraine’s Air Defense Thwarts Missile and Drone Assault

On the night of April 18, Russian terrorists launched six missiles and almost 40 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) against Ukraine. The attack took place from four directions, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

As stated by the Air Force, during the assault, the adversary initiated:

• 1 The Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from the annexed Crimean Peninsula;

・5 Iskander-K cruise missiles from the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region and the Crimean peninsula;

· 37 Shahed drones and similar replicas originating from the regions near the Russian cities of Millerovo and Kursk.

They played a role in fending off the assault:

・aviation;

・anti-aircraft missile units;

・electronic warfare (EW) units;

• Attack formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

By 09:30 AM Kyiv time, 26 aerial targets have been verified as shot down, including:

・3 Iskander-K cruise missiles;

・23 attack drones.

• Additionally, 10 replica drones were destroyed in the region.

The cities affected by the shelling include those in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv regions.

Bombardment of Ukraine by Russia

Russia bombards Ukrainian territories consistently every day, employing an extensive array of weaponry — including artillery, multiple-launch rocket systems, aerial bombs, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. The bombardments targeting front-line zones and frontier areas are notably severe.

Furthermore, Russian forces are consistently employing attack drones, notably models of the Shahed series, which are deployed nightly.

Yesterday evening, an opposing force’s unmanned aerial vehicle struck a privately-owned bakery making Easter cakes, resulting in the death of the owner.

Specifically, terrorists launched a missile attack on Kharkiv on Good Friday. The number of injured individuals has surpassed 70.
