Russian Warplanes Spotted Near U.S. Coastline: Tensions Rise

Russian military aircraft have been spotted near the coastline of
Alaska
In a frightening intensification, military authorities reported on Tuesday.

Officials from North American Aerospace Defense Command stated that the Russian aircraft did not enter the airspace of either America or Canada.

Officials have not disclosed the specific kind of Russian aircraft involved, the number that approached the coastline, or their intended mission.

The Russian aircraft stayed within international airspace but allegedly entered an area known as the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which extends beyond U.S. sovereign airspace.

Aircraft are expected to identify themselves in the ADIZ, and NORAD says it surveils the area to maintain national security.

It comes just two months
after US fighter jets were scrambled to the ADIZ region when four Russian military aircraft
, including two bomber aircraft, were also spotted.

The earlier incident took place in December when NORAD reported spotting four Russian planes close to the Alaskan coastline.

U.S. authorities indicate that occurrences of Russian planes breaching the Air Defense Identification Zone have increased as the country adopts a more antagonistic stance toward America.
