According to authorities, the missile was fired from an Iskander-K system and exploded in the air over a playground near a 16-story residential tower.
“This missile comes with a price tag of $3 million. Its use resulted in the destruction of a high-rise building and injuries among civilian populations,” stated Serhiy Bolvinov, who leads investigations for the Kharkiv regional police, in a Facebook post.
If it had struck head-on, the structure would have crumbled entirely. It’s quite a formidable weapon.

Bolvinov recognized the armament as a 9M727 missile, which serves as Russia’s counterpart to the American Tomahawk cruise missile. According to him, this missile can operate at very low altitudes to elude air defense systems and comes fitted with stealth capabilities along with agile maneuvers to bypass radar detection.
“This is the type of weaponry Russia employs against residential areas, typically striking early in the morning when people are still asleep,” he said.
Officials say three of these cruise missiles were used in Thursday’s attack, targeting not only residential buildings but also a civilian manufacturing facility.

Two workshops were demolished — one specialized in producing women’s jackets, and the other manufactured toothpaste tubes, shampoo bottles, and cosmetic packaging.

The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, stated that over 20 apartment complexes and more than 30 individual houses sustained damage. Emergency crews continued their operations at the location, expressing concern that several inhabitants might be buried beneath the debris.
