‘s aggressive approach toward
Canada
has failed to win over his northern neighbor according to recent surveys, with residents largely seeing him as a danger to their nation’s future.
The latest WARINFO/J.L. Partners Poll shows that 73 percent of Canadian voters view Trump as the global leader who poses a greatest threat to Canada.
Out of the 73 percent, 61 percent who identified Trump as the greatest threat to Canada belong to this group.
Conservative Party
, 81 percent of the members in the Liberal party, and 82 percent of those in the New Democratic Party,
Democratic Party
.
The poll was conducted of over 1,000 Canadian adults between April 9 and 11.
In the survey, Canadians pinpointed the second biggest threat as being from China under its president.
Xi Jinping
With only nine percent of voters concurring and six percent stating that Russian President Vladimir
Putin
as the greatest threat.
Only 16 percent of Canadians had a favorable view of Trump, whereas 72 percent held an unfavorable opinion of him.
Among the terms frequently cited in polls to characterize Trump, “arrogant,” “idiot,” and “bully” stood out as some of the most common descriptors.
Sixty-one percent said they viewed Trump as ‘most like’ Russian President Vladimir Putin.



Since Trump returned to the presidency for his second term, he has routinely bullied Canada with rhetoric
urging the country to join the United States as the ’51st state

The president has likewise incited rage among the public by
enacting punishing tariffs on Canadian exports
.
‘We cannot pay the deficits of Canada, Mexico and so many other countries. We used to do it; we can’t do it anymore,’ he said during a White House event on tariffs.
The poll found that Liberal leader Mark Carney holds a slight edge over Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
Respondents backed Carney with 39 percent of the vote while 37 percent went for Poilievre.
The election will take place Monday, April 28, 2025
The remaining 22 percent was split among fourth other candidates from different parties.
The margin of error was 3.4 percent.
The second most importation issue for Canadian voters behind installing a stable government, is to pick a candidate for Prime Minister who will stand up to Trump.
‘It is too close to call, with the Liberals with a two-point lead over the Conservatives,’ J.L. Partners co-founder James Johnson told WARINFOabout the results, describing the upcoming election as the ‘Trump election.’
