Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has charged US envoy Steve Witkoff with “spreading Russian talking points.”
This follows Witkoff making contentious remarks regarding the areas of Ukraine that are under occupation.
During a press briefing in Kiev on Thursday, Zelensky charged the U.S. official with adopting “the strategy of the Russian side.”
I believe this is extremely risky since he might be promoting Russian narratives either intentionally or unintentionally,” Zelensky stated. “In any event, it doesn’t provide assistance.
Earlier this week, during an interview with Fox News, Witkoff highlighted his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the encounter “compelling.”
He stated that any peace agreement concerning Ukraine would revolve around what he termed as the “so-called five territories,” which includes Crimea—the Ukrainian peninsula seized by Russia in 2014—and the four continental areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, all under Russian occupation following their complete military offensive launched in 2022.
