Russia has voiced concerns about the possibility of Germany supplying Taurus missiles to Kyiv. The country stated that it would view any strikes on Russian soil using these missiles as direct German participation in the conflict alongside Ukraine, according to remarks made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova at a press conference.
Zakharova stated that Russia would consider any Taurus missile strike on Russian targets as German participation in the war on Ukraine’s side, with all the corresponding consequences for Germany.
Her comments were made in reaction to statements by Germany’s upcoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who suggested that the illicitly built Crimean Bridge could be a possible target for the Taurus missiles.
Taurus missiles for Ukraine
Germany’s future Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he is prepared to back the transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. He believes these missiles could be used by Ukraine to target the Crimean Bridge.
It should be mentioned that Chancellor Olaf Scholz, set to depart from his position shortly, was a strong opponent of this measure for an extended period.
Military analyst Ivan Stupak suggests that various factors could influence the transfer of Taurus systems, affecting both the quantity of missiles deployed and their range.
In the meantime, Matthias Miersch, the General Secretary of Germany’s Social Democratic Party, thinks that Merz will ultimately decline to provide Ukraine with Taurus once he reviews classified data.
