Ukrainian Drones Strike Again: 112th Russian Brigade Behind Deadly Sumy Attack in Crosshairs

Footage from Shuya displayed drones attacking the military installation, causing conflagrations.

Defense Express analysts said the Lyutyi drones’ guidance systems enabled precise targeting, with the April 16 attack hitting multiple brigade facilities, including its headquarters.

Shuya is situated 700 kilometers away from Ukraine’s border; however, the drones chose a more circuitous path. This detour allowed them to bypass Moscow Oblast’s strong anti-air systems and attack locations within Russia’s tightly guarded central industrial area, according to analysts.

Defense Express highlighted Russia’s failure to bolster its air defenses after the first attack, allowing Lyutyi drones to strike again on April 17. The consecutive attacks suggest Ukraine has sufficient long-range drones for sustained strikes on Russian territory.

The 112th Brigade, equipped with Iskander-M ballistic missiles, was implicated by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) in the April 13 Palm Sunday attack on Sumy, which killed 35 people and injured over 120.

On April 16, drones made their initial assault on the 112th Brigade’s camp in Shuya, where the Telegram channel Astra reported blasts and impacts.
